The Xiaomi 12 Pro is a king even amongst flagships, with flagship features on the bleeding edge, with top of its class super LTPO OLED 120Hz screen, a triple camera arrangement, 120W fast charging & wireless charging, a huge battery at 4600mAh and the latest 888 Snapdragon chipset. It ticks pretty much every box, and then some. Add 5G to the mix and this phone is nothing but a beast! If anything, it’s very much a flagship, but not the most expensive on the market, which is a wonderful compromise!
Design
The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with a 6.73-inch LTPO OLED 120Hz screen with a center punch-hole design for the selfie camera, which makes this a slightly larger device, in comparison to the other Xiaomi 12s. It’s a massive screen, hardly a one-handed operation, with a screen-to-body ratio of 89.6%. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz refresh rate, an aspect ratio of 20:9, and supports HD10+ which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with.
It has an aluminum frame, a glass back and a Corning Gorilla Victus front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 1500 nits. It’s rated for IP68 dust and splash protection, making it waterproof in 1.5m for 30mins. unfortunately, it loses the headphone jack, just like it has been conspicuously missing from other phones in this range. It has an on-screen fingerprint sensor, in addition to secure face unlock. It supports stereo speakers, which offer great sound when playing media.
Performance
The Xiaomi 12 Pro is a beast with the latest flagship generation midrange Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset, placing it on the top with the big boys. It has a Cortez Octa-core CPU paired with an Adreno 730 GPU, with storage options of 8/12 GB for RAM & 128/256 GB for ROM. It does not offer an expandable memory option.
Paired with the 120Hz screen, running the latest Android 12 with One MIUI 13 skin on top, the performance feels very fast and premium. The MIUI 13 is rich in customizations, supporting numerous always-on screen animations and true blacks. That is in addition to native Xiaomi apps and what’s good in the MUIU eco-system. Everything feels fast, fluid, and rich in color.
Cameras
The Xiaomi 12 Pro has a triple camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a decent 50 MP primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. The ultra-wide is another 50MP lens, with a 115˚field of view, giving it great immersion for those landscape or group photos. There is an extra 50MP macro telephoto lens for those nice, close-up photos with X2 optical zoom.
They really did go ham on the cameras. The video can support up to 8K video at 24 fps, with HDR supports & gyro-EIS stability assistance. It can also record 4k video at 30 fps with gyro-EIS & HDR10+. The selfie camera is a generous 32MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30/60fps. The selfies are great and well-lit.
Other features
We can’t fail to mention the charging speeds in The Xiaomi 12 Pro. At an impressive 120W fast charging, the phone can get to 100% in about 18 mins! This is bleeding edge, and probably the industry-leading speed. in addition, it gets 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging! Seems like Xiaomi really went ham on the charging speeds, which makes it impressive by all standards.
That is in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 4600mAh non-removable battery. Even with the high refresh rate screen, this should be more than enough. It supports NFC for contactless payments and has an IR blaster. The device is very much a serious contender in the flagship sector. It comes in Black, Green, Blue, and Pink
