Huawei’s line of superphones is always top spec and very powerful. In an effort to deliver the experience without the price tag, we often get the lite version, which in this case was derived from the Huawei P30 variant. The Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is a great device undoubtedly, but what makes it tick? Let’s take a look.
The Huawei P30 Lite comes with a smaller 6.15inch LTPS IPS LCD screen. It has an infinity U teardrop notch to house the front-facing camera. With a screen to body ratio of 84.2%, it has uniform bezels and a narrow chin, giving off a bezel-less feel, which is great for content consumption, although the LCD is not known to be that great in direct sunlight.
The frame is made out of plastic, but the back has a premium feeling glass. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and beside it, a triple vertical camera module. At the bottom, we are excited to find both the USB-C connector and a 3.5 mm jack, alongside the downward-firing speaker grill. Check out Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.
The Huawei P30 Lite runs a Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset. A popular mid-range processor that has run numerous other Huawei phones. And it has been largely proved to be dependable and very efficient. The phone is flanked by an octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex A73/A53 CPU combo and a Mali G51 MP4 GPU. It has 4/6/8GB options for RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
It is also expandable with a hybrid microSDXC card which shares the slot with the sim slot. The performance is solid midrange, taking on even the most intensive apps with ease, though a compromise has to be taken when it comes to graphics. By and large, the SoC is not one to disappoint. Also, Huawei P30 Lite comes with a rather average 3340 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. This should last you till the end of the day, but not with much left after that. I wonder what informed the decision to step down from the 4000 mAh capacity. It has suddenly become the industry standard for a good battery.
Nonetheless, with the LCD screen and optimized chip, it doesn’t drain that fast, and if need be, the 18W fast charging should come in handy, filling the phone in about 2 hours. We don’t get wireless charging, but in this price range, wireless charging is usually a wildcard, so it is a compromise that we all usually anticipate – see also Huawei Y9s.
The Huawei P30 Lite comes with EMUI 10.0, based on Android 9 Pie, upgradable to 10 in subsequent updates. It is important to note, however, that support of these particular updates is no longer guaranteed. With the US ban and Huawei being locked out of core Goggle GMS, we are not sure about the devices that already had GMS at launch, considering those that came out after the ban are running HMS. It remains a wait and sees kind of scenario, but EMUI still runs smooth and fast. Of course, some bloatware is expected but for the Huawei user, it might not feel out of place at all.
The Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is a great device. The focus on cameras is usually awesome, although it might feel like it is a more expensive offering considering what is available in the market. The only thorn that stands out could be the software, but as it is, there is no need to be anxious. The Huawei P30 Lite still delivers the dream.
