Design
The Huawei P Smart 2020 is certainly a beautiful device. It boasts a 6.21 inch IPS LCD screen with a teardrop notch that houses the front-facing camera. The build is plastic, both frame, and back but still looks beautiful with the colorful shimmering design. The bezels are minimal but the chin is certainly not, helping push the body to screen ratio to about 83.1%. On the rear, we have a vertical dual camera bump and a fingerprint scanner. It comes with a micro USB connector and a 3.5 mm jack.
Performance
The P Smart 2020 comes with a formidable processor, the Hi-silicon Kirin 710. That’s alongside an octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex A73/A53 CPU combo and a Mali G51 MP4 GPU. Onboard, we get memory options of 4 GB RAM and 128 GB of mass storage, and a hybrid expandable memory slot that shares with the sim-card. This configuration is enough to handle with ease most of the everyday tasks, considering the Kirin has over the years optimized their graphics processing in comparison with the older chips.
Camera
Huawei P Smart 2020 is not camera-centric by design. It is a dual camera set up, starting with the 13 mp primary camera and a 2 mp depth sensor. Combined, the performance is average and capable of a few well-placed shots. It can shoot 1080p video in 30fps. The front-facing camera is an 8 mp shooter, offering usable selfie pictures. Software
The Huawei P Smart 2020 comes with EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie with an update lined up for Android 10. But unlike many other Huawei devices available from the latter half of 2019 going forward, it still gets support from core android GMS. That means it runs the ordinary kind of android that runs other similar devices. You get to use maps, and Gmail and other Goggle system apps, without the need to side-load APKs since you get access to the Play-store.
Battery
The P Smart 2020 comes with a capable 3400 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery, one of the smaller batteries with this brand, but still able to easily last one through the day on average use. Conclusion
On the surface, the Huawei P Smart 2020 runs like a charm. Despite the not so great cameras, it has a great entry-level chipset, trading photos for power. Even better, it runs Android GMS, which isn’t something we say about the rest of Huawei’s devices. This is a reprieve at this price point as it would have been too competitive, even for Huawei.
