Apple iPhone 14
The Apple iPhone 14 is the new entry level iPhone flagship, with a great value proposition, especially considering it is 5G ready. It packs the new a15 Bionic chipset, a 6.1-inch OLED screen, a great 12MP camera, a reasonable 3279 mAh battery, fast & wireless charging and an advanced face unlock sensor. At its price, it’s truly a great bargain.
Design
The Apple iPhone 14 comes with a 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina screen with huge rectangular notch for the selfie camera and face unlock sensors. It’s comfortable to hold with the square edges, with a screen to body ratio of 86.0%. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and supports HD10+ which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has an aluminium frame and glass back, and a scratch resistant ceramic Corning Gorilla glass with oleophobic coating front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 1200 nits. Its rated for IP68 dust and splash protection, so it can survive 6m of water for 30 mins.
Performance
Apple bumped up the chipset, introducing the new Apple A15 bionic, with a hexa-core CPU and a 5-core Apple GPU, with storage options of 6 GB for RAM & 128/256/512 GB for ROM. It does not come with an expandable memory option, but cloud storage has always been preferred alternative. Paired with the OLED screen, running the latest iOS 12 update, the performance is as good as ever. New haptics, design and software integration makes a great compact interaction.
Cameras
The Apple iPhone 14 has a dual camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a huge 12 MP primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. It also has a 12MP ultrawide for portrait and landscape. The video can support up 4k video at 60 fps, 1080p at 240fps, and 4k in cinematic mode with Dolby Vision HDR support & gyro-EIS stability assistance. like many iPhone devices before, it is an excellent camera phone. The selfie camera is a decent 12MP wide sensor, capable of 4k video at 60fps and 4k cinematic mode. The selfies deliver beautifully. this happens to be one of the best cameras on a phone, largely due to great software processing.
Other features
The Apple iPhone 14 comes with fast charging, getting to 50%. That’s fairly usable. That in 30 mins. the wattage is however unspecified. in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 3279mAh non-removable battery, which is rather generous. Even with the high power screen, this should be more than enough . it also comes with 15W Magsafe wireless charging and qi magnetic fast wireless charging 7.5W. It supports NFC for contactless paying with Apple Pay. It comes in Midnight, Purple, Starlight, Blue and Red.
Similarly, priced phones would include Samsung Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13 Pro. the main distinctions at this price point is often a choice of bigger screen or more memory. The options to increase screen or battery however lies solely on buying a different variant of the iPhone.
