Brief overview

Tecno has for years carved a reputation of releasing multiple budget devices catering to different kinds of audiences at the same time. This rings true to the star of this write-up, the TECNO Spark Power 2. It has some impressive specifications, including a huge 7.0 screen, a 6000 mAh battery, and 18W fast charging, but still at a budget price. The expected price in Kenya is Ksh 14,000

Design and display

The TECNO Spark Power 2 comes with the display design of 2020, sporting a 7.0 inch IPS LCD screen, with a teardrop notch design to accommodate the front-facing camera, achieving an 83.6% screen to body ratio. The build is plastic, both frame, and back, which has a premium looking shimmery finish. Just below the narrow chin, we have a micro USB connector, a downward-firing speaker, and ahead jack.

This phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in addition to face unlock biometrics. Interesting to note is that the TECNO Spark Power 2 comes with stereo loudspeakers, which isn’t something you see every day.

The TECNO Spark Power 2 runs the mediate MT6762 Helio P22 chipset, widely considered a reliable entry-level processor, tied up with an octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex A53 CPU and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The memory on board is 4 GB for RAM and 64 GB internal mass storage, with a dedicated micro SD slot for expandable memory. This is more than average power for day to day computing and a side of intensive tasks. The opening of tasks and multitasking should be better and faster too.

The TECNO Spark Power 2 with a great camera array, a triple-lens setup. The primary camera is a 16 mp wide lens, augmented by a 5 mp ultra-wide lens, a 2 mp macro, and a QVGA depth-cum-low light sensor. The pictures are decent and usable, especially in optimal lighting. The ultra-wide comes in handy or those landscape or group photos, and the details are great.

The macro and portrait shots are not great but it’s still nice to have such a functionality. The video can shoot up to 1080p at 30fps. The front-facing camera is a single 16 mp wide lens, also capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are good and true to life, especially color-wise. You may also like Tecno Spark 4.

The TECNO Spark Power 2 comes with a massive 6000 mAh non-removable battery, which means several days of continued use, making it a great tool for consuming content, photography, and low graphics gaming. Also, we get micro USB 18W fast charging, which hits 50% in about an hour. That means endless hours of usage without a worry in the world about juice.

The TECNO Spark Power 2 runs Android 10 based HIOS 6.1 straight of the box. Despite recent design changes and upgrades, it still has massive bloatware. You can toggle of some of the services and delete the preloaded apps, but if feels self-defeating to have them on the phone in the first place. The ads within the system are irritating, to say the least, but a return Tecno user wouldn’t be bothered much about it.

The HIOS is still popular, due to its ability to be heavily customized with themes and fonts, and may have a trick or two for a new user. In another place, Android 10 has come a long way and is by far the best Android ever to come out. You may also want to check out Tecno Pouvoir 4.

Final remarks

The TECNO Spark Power 2 is a great device. The massive battery, fast charging, memory, quad cameras, stereo speakers, and huge screen all make a very compelling case for this budget device. It offers a little of everything in a balanced and more objective manner. This should be one of the better selling devices within the budget space for sure.
