Nokia G21 5G
The Nokia G21 5G is a new budget phone, with a great value proposition. It packs a very fast snapdragon 480 5G chipset, a huge 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen, a generous 48MP primary camera, a huge 4470 mAh battery, 18W fast charging, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. At its price, it’s truly a great bargain.
Design
The Nokia G21 comes with a 6.67-inch 90Hz IPS LCD screen with a dew drop design for the selfie camera. It has a screen-to-body ratio of 81.6% and is quite bright and vivid, peaking at 450 nits with an aspect ratio of 20:9, and supports HD10+ which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame and back, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 front panel. Like many Xiaomi Redmi phones, it comes with an IR blaster and, fortunately, a headphone jack. It has a physical fast fingerprint sensor, conveniently placed on the side, and integrated into the power button. It has a downward-firing speaker, which is great for playing media.
Performance
The Nokia G21 comes with the improved budget Snapdragon 480 5G chipset, making it very fast and decent for gaming. It has a Cortex Octa-core 2.0GHz CPU paired with an Adreno 619 GPU, with storage options of 6GB for RAM & 128GB for ROM. It also comes with a dedicated expandable memory option, which is a plus. Running the latest stock Android 11, the performance feels very fast and premium. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels fast, fluid, and rich in color.
Cameras
The Nokia G21 has a quad camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a generous 48MP wide primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. There is an extra 5MP ultra-wide, a 2MP depth sensor to add bokeh or portrait effect on the photos, and a 2MP lens for macro photos. The video can support 1080p video at 30 fps, with HDR support & Zeiss optics assistance. The selfie camera is a capable 16MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are great and well-lit.
Other features
We can’t fail to mention the charging speeds in the Nokia G21. At 18W fast charging, the phone can get fully charged in about an hour. That’s fairly usable. That in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 4470mAh non-removable battery, which is rather generous. This should be more than a day’s worth even with a power user. Of course, there is no wireless charging here. It supports NFC for contactless paying. It comes in Midnight Blue.
Similarly, priced phones would include Tecno Pova Neo, Nokia G11, the Oppo A16K, and Realme C25Y. the main distinction at this price point is often a choice of a better camera or more memory. The sizes are usually standard and the batteries are often huge. It’s unlikely there are wireless charging options as the price is too competitive.
The design is great, in addition to the many cameras and the huge memory option. The OS is stock android, which offers the least bloatware of all android skins.
