Grabbing it quickly results in every surface becoming smothered in gooey fingerprints – time for some serious scrub-a-dub! It really detracts from the stunning completion. Apple may not be the only culprit when it comes to bum deals with dark aluminum; nevertheless, my advice would be to steer clear of their Midnight model as its fingerprinting issues continue over the years – just like Razer’s laptops. The new MacBook Air model features a notch in its display, similar to the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The notch creates difficulties when I use the computer, similarly to the other models.

The notch has truly strained the way I interact with the menu bar on my Mac, disrupting everything from my workflow to my sense of aesthetics. Let’s get ready to rock those menu bar apps! Clocks, calendars, to-do lists, system monitoring and other utilities – I’ve gathered them all together for you! The notch often disguises the apps in my menu bar, making them impossible to access – the ultimate injustice. Amazingly, an outside app called Bartender can cure my Mac menu-bar problem – which is not so amazing since Apple should do the job for me. The top bezel should have been thicker to avoid that annoying notch – what a bummer!

Configuring a computer with additional features can prove to be costly, and it is recommended to not select the lower-level options. Apple revealed that the storage on the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2’s base model is all stored in one single NAND chip, unlike its M1 and M2 models with higher storage capacity. Wow! With only 8GB of RAM, maxing it out will definitely put the brakes on your laptop’s performance – halving its speed compared to an aged M1 Air’s – when you try to transfer hefty files or juggle lots of apps. I’m really sad to see this downward trend – it looks like if you want something I’d feel confident in recommending, you’re gonna be shelling out at least ksh. 150,000
Storage
Storage-lovers beware! Put your trust in the 8GB RAM, 256GB storage of Apple’s M1 Air base model – but be aware that it won’t be as speedy as its more storage-filled siblings, the M1 and M2 models. Forgo the base model M2 Air unless you can score a major deal – otherwise, it’s not worth your while!
Premiere Pro 23 helped the M2 Air blast through 4K video exports, with a clip of five and a half minutes zooming through in roughly real time – seven percent quicker than the M1 Air! If you’re an occasional video editor, the M2 Air delivers: not as speedy as a MacBook Pro or dedicated graphics card computer, but still capable of accomplishment!
In 2020, Apple made the switch from Intel processors to its M1 chips and unleashed a performance revolution, but we don’t anticipate those same dramatic strides forward with future generations of Arm chips. Get ready for an upgrade with the M2 generation this year – the incremental improvements may not seem big at first glance, but they’ll cumulatively deliver a significant leap forward when you jump several generations of MacBooks!
Even though benchmarking doesn’t always define success, the M2 Air didn’t let me down – it was my perfect partner for doing all of my regular knowledge worker tasks! Chrome, Slack, Zoom, music – oh my! I multicast between dozens of tabs and multiple windows with no issue, doing my work in harmony as if it was always meant to be. The bottom panel and the keyboard stayed nice and cool – even when I was really putting them to the test with my daily tasks! The M2’s slim and lightweight physique is more than fit to power through productivity-intensive tasks, give you access to the world wide web, and provide top-notch visuals for movies and TV shows – so get ready to write those term papers with speed like never before!
If you’re into editing pictures and videos, you can’t go wrong with Apple Photos or iMovie – they’re perfect for the occasional creative touch-up! With 8GB of RAM on my review unit, I managed to push the system’s memory capacity until it started swapping to the SSD. But with how fast the storage was, I cruised through my daily work without any noticeable slowdown!
If you dabble in the realms of photo and video editing, forget the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro and go for the Air instead! Benefitting from the sublime screen, unrivaled webcam, MagSafe charger & lightweight body – plus not having to sacrifice any seconds! If you’re a creative professional who needs to edit raw photos, or code like a pro, then the Air ain’t gonna cut it – you need the serious power of a MacBook Pro in 14″ or 16″!
Verdict
For the majority of laptop lovers, the M2 Air is the perfect lightweight, whisper-quiet choice in comparison to the MacBook Pro range. The M2 Air had the same battery power as its predecessor, the M1 – an unparalleled performance! With 200 nits of brightness, I managed to get up to 10 hours out of my laptop – with Chrome, Slack and multiple Spaces open, all those menu bar apps going and Zoom calls to boot. Amazing!
The 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 has the highest battery life of computers this size, surpassing all other models. Despite the positive results from the Air, my general battery life is worse than other reviewers and colleagues. Therefore, I do not find it to be a reason for concern. If you’re switching from an older Intel MacBook Air, you’ll be delighted with the extended battery life of this computer – a must-have for any Apple fan!
The new MacBook Air has been successful in several aspects. The device has an improved screen, a slim and lightweight design, upgraded speakers, an enhanced webcam, a functional keyboard and trackpad, easier charging capabilities and superior craftsmanship.
