lenovo Tab K10 review
In late 2021, lenovo Tab k10 launched the lenovo Tab k10, a budget 10.3-inch tablet with a stylish design, marking its return to the tablet world. The company has followed up by introducing a successor.
Design and Built
The LENOVO Tab k10 features a slim construction and an aluminium body, carrying on the design legacy of its predecessor. LENOVO has changed their signature blue colour to a charcoal grey shade. The tablet measures 7.5mm in thickness and has a weight of 460g, making it portable and lightweight. The box does not include any protective cases, however Nokia offers a variety of protective accessories which guard against impacts. This product comes with an IP52 rating, providing protection from light dust and water spray.
There is a USB-C port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack located at the bottom of the device in the right-hand corner. The power button is situated on the upper edge, while the volume settings are on the right and a detachable tray that can hold both a SIM card (available in LTE models) and a microSD card is located there as well. The Lenovo Tab K10 tablet does not include a stylus or keyboard, and these accessories are not available through official Nokia channels. It is possible to use third-party Bluetooth keyboards and styluses with the device.
Screen & speakers
Lenovo has elected to use a 10.36in screen with a 5:3 aspect ratio. Tablets typically have a 4:3 screen, while this one has a slightly wider ratio, but it is not equivalent to the widescreen of a television. The 2K IPS display is equipped with toughened glass, providing some resistance to scratches. This device is budget-friendly and has a 60Hz screen, meaning it does not have high or variable refresh rate. The peak brightness has been reduced to 360 nits compared to the previous model. You can choose between natural, boosted, or adaptive colour settings depending on your preference. The quality of this product surpasses that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, which has a FHD panel.
The tablet can be unlocked using a pattern/passcode, or through facial recognition. The latter was reliable regardless of wearing glasses. Unfortunately, there is no fingerprint scanner, which provides increased security compared to the use of a camera for facial recognition. Lenovo Tab K10 is equipped with two speakers and OZO Spatial Audio software. The playback sound on this tablet is punchy and loud, though not of the same quality as that found on higher end models. It is suitable for streaming services, podcasts and occasional music.
Specs & performance
The Tab K10 utilizes Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU, which is an improvement over its predecessor. This product is equipped with 4GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB of storage capacity, which can be extended with a microSD card up to 512GB. The product is available in both Wi-Fi and LTE versions. The performance of the Tab K10 is not excellent, but as expected for a basic tablet. This device performs adequately for streaming, note-making, e-book reading and web-surfing, though it can occasionally be slow when launching and switching between applications.
There are tablets available at comparable prices which offer enhanced performance. The Tab K10 scored higher than the Samsung Tab A8 and S6. Neither of the tablets has sufficient power to support gaming beyond casual games which do not require extensive 3D processing.
Camera
The camera quality on tablet devices is generally not considered to be of the same importance than it is on smartphones. Lenovo has improved the set-up of the Tab K10 model in comparison to previous generations. The front selfie camera has been increased to an 8Mp resolution from a 5Mp resolution. Colors are enhanced but textures are not as sharp and indoor pictures lack vibrant colors when compared to images taken in outdoor lighting. This camera is suitable for video calls.
Under the right lighting conditions, it is possible to take satisfactory photos using the Tab K10. Colors may appear to be muted and textures tend to lack sharpness. The camera has 8X zoom capability, however the quality of photos drops significantly when magnifying beyond 2X. Both cameras have auto-focus capabilities and offer portrait mode and basic editing filters.
Battery life & charging
The Lenovo Tab K10 has a 7700mAh battery, with a claimed battery life of up to three days. That is not commonly used. With this device, you will experience approximately two days of use while streaming, browsing social media and reading between work commitments. Three days of usage could be achieved if battery-conserving measures are taken, such as enabling the battery-save mode and reducing brightness.
The Lenovo K10 possesses 10W charging capabilities; however, the box does not contain a charger and includes a USB-C cable instead. The company is committed to reducing waste in the packaging. Investing in Lenovo 10W charger can be beneficial, costing Ksh. 2000. It is advisable to charge the tablet for an extended period, such as during the night, and a charger from Nokia may offer improved performance.
Software
Lenovo devices provide users with an experience that is similar to stock Android, meaning users accustomed to Google’s UI should have no issue experiencing the device. The apps are well organized without excessive bloatware, which is not typically found on competitors from Xiaomi.
The tablet comes pre-installed with the Android 11 operating system. Lenovo has confirmed that this device will receive two OS updates and three years of monthly security updates, although the OS version is not the latest Google release. The Google suite of apps are preinstalled on the device, including both Google Entertainment Space and Kids Space. The former provides video recommendations from platforms you’re signed up to, while the latter customises the Android experience for young users with educational app suggestions and configurable content filters.
The Tab K10 can be used as an additional screen with a Windows device, provided that they are on the same Wi-Fi network. This feature can be accessed from the drop-down menu, allowing you to cast your screen to the Tab K10 by pressing the Windows and K keys on your laptop/PC. The tablet’s productivity is increased with its functionality, which may be beneficial for those lacking space to accommodate a large monitor in their home workspace.
Price & availability
The Tab K10 is available at a price of Ksh. 38,500 for the Wi-Fi version. The tablet can be purchased through phones store website or at our shop.
Verdict
The Lenovo Tab K10 has added improvements in key areas. This product has a sleek design, and its battery life is impressive considering the price. The box does not include a charger, resulting in slower speeds for most users, and the display is not quite up to par with the previous generation. There are some minor concerns with the Lenovo tablet, but overall it is a good and budget friendly option.
