Although it’s not something you’d want to treat carelessly like a budget Android tablet, it doesn’t feel fragile or delicate. Camera

On the camera front, there’s both good and not-so-good news. The 12MP Ultra Wide front camera has been repositioned to the right-hand side, perfectly placed at the top of the screen in landscape orientation. This change has made video calls more comfortable and intuitive, and logging in via Face ID is easier—a much-requested and welcome design enhancement. However, the rear camera setup includes a 12MP f/1.8 camera that can shoot up to 4K at 60fps, complemented by a LiDAR sensor for improved autofocus and an Adaptive True Tone flash. Apple claims this system enhances document scanning by using AI to detect and remove shadows from images, taking multiple shots for better results.

The LiDAR camera on the iPad Pro also brings 3D and spatial awareness capabilities, enabling the tablet to scan rooms and recognize objects. This feature allows augmented reality (AR) apps to overlay virtual objects seamlessly into the real world when viewed through the iPad Pro’s screen. So, why isn’t this entirely great news? The new iPad Pro 13-inch (2024) lacks the ultra-wide rear camera found in previous versions. 

This change might disappoint some users. However, the combination of the 12MP camera, LiDAR sensor, and the M4’s advanced image processing will still deliver impressive wide-angle shots.  Regarding the iPad Pro 13-inch (2024) camera performance, the outstanding details captured with both the front and rear cameras are impressive.

In comparison, the latest MacBook Pro 14-inch model features the now previous-generation M3 chip.

By bypassing the M3 generation for the iPad Pro (with the prior model housing the M2), Apple has created a groundbreaking device that wouldn’t have been feasible otherwise, despite the M3’s capabilities. The advantages are especially noticeable in the enhanced power efficiency that enables the iPad Pro 13-inch (2024) to be exceptionally thin while supporting the dual, or ‘tandem,’ OLED setup. According to Apple, the new M4 iPad Pro offers 20% better thermal performance and quadruples the rendering capabilities of its predecessor. This feature doesn’t mean the M4’s power is lower. You can then adjust levels and settings to remix the audio. It’s pretty impressive; I tested it with tracks I made in Ableton Live 12 and some audio samples provided by Apple.

Logic Pro for iPad 2 also uses AI for virtual session musicians, enabling you to quickly generate drums, bass, and piano tracks to form a song’s foundation. You can refine these tracks for a more realistic sound, freeing up time for recording your instruments and getting creative. This feature is great for sparking ideas, allowing you to create good-sounding tunes quickly. 

Importantly, you can perform these complex tasks, typically done on a MacBook, on the iPad Pro instead, which is quite remarkable.  onnecting the 13-inch (2024) iPad Pro to a keyboard, mouse, and external USB-C monitor essentially creates a highly portable workstation.  As expected, the new iPad Pro 13-inch doesn’t have fans, but thanks to an advanced thermal solution and the power efficiency of the M4 chip, it maintains peak performance without overheating during use.

The iPad Pro’s performance is rock-solid. Thanks to the stunning screen, watching media is a delight, and the speakers are loud and clear. While external speakers or monitors are preferable for audio projects, the built-in speakers are impressive, considering the slim design of the iPad Pro 13-inch (2024).
