Huawei Y5p price in Kenya and key features

|Front Cameras||5 MP|
The Huawei Y5P sports rather small the 5.45 inch IPS LCD screen with the older forehead and chin design, that’s reminiscent of the phones that came before the bezelless revolution. Since there is no effort to trim the bezels whatsoever, it doesn’t even feel like a 2020 phone. The build is predictably plastic, both frame and back, where a single primary camera module lies.
It does not even have a finger print sensor, but at this price point, that would be expecting too much. At the bottom lies the microUSB connector and a 3.5mm jack, features that seem to follow each other in budget phones. You might also like Huawei Y6p.
Being an entry device, there is really not much power to be expected here. The Huawei Y5P comes with a Mediatek MT6762R Helio P22 chipset, a quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex A53 CPU and a PowerVR 8320 GPU. It has a RAM of 2GB and an internal storage of 32GB, over and above the dedicated microSDXC expandable slot.
This absolutely basic performance, for basic apps with basic expectations. Graphics should be poor but everything else should work just fine. It totally works for media consumption, GSM internet up to 4G and average camera use. Gaming would depend on the graphics needed on the various games but I wouldn’t lean too much onto that particular spec.
On the camera sector, it doesn’t get more basic than this. The primary camera is an 8mp wide shooter than does pretty much all the lifting. The picture quality is therefore extremely basic, though usable, but only in optimal conditions. Outside those particular parameters, it deteriorates into basic image architecture but without usable clarity.
At this price point, that’s hardly unexpected. It can however still shoot some HD video in 1080p in 30fps, a welcome reprieve to such a basic set up. The front facing camera is 5mp and not much should be expected, either on video or photos. You may also like Huawei Y7p.
At this particular price point, basic specs are expected on every feature across the board. The battery is no exempt. The Huawei Y5P come with a 3020 mAh non removable battery, just like the Huawei Y5 before it, which, putting the other specifications into consideration, is pretty competent. It can last you the whole day with average performance but that’s about it. It’s no surprise we get micro-USB so expect standard 10W charging times of about 2 hours.
Having come out after the US ban hit Huawei and had them kicked out of core Android GMS, the Huawei Y5P comes with Android 10 based EMUI 10.1, a custom skin of android, but without the Google Mobile Serves. Therefore, future updates and support is not guaranteed and remains unknown.
Nevertheless, Huawei added their own AppGallery where most the popular apps can be found. Anything else not covered can be found within APK resources for side-loading. Still, you can’t use core services like maps, Gmail, YouTube, which will definitely have it feeling different – see also Huawei Y6s.
The Huawei Y5P is a basic entry level unit with an alright design, simple and to the point. mostly because of the screen that looks like it was designed years ago. Over and above the basic components, it is a great value proposition and may appeal to most who are only interested in the internals and at the lowest price point available.
