The Samsung Note line of phones is a rather industry-specific range of phones, notably known for their phablet status, not only for the bigger screens but also the s-pen stylus functionality, usually for productivity that needs manual input like drawing and doodling. This is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus, the bigger brother to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. So what distinguishes part from the regular Note? Let’s take a dive.

Design and display of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is a much bigger brother, with a 6.8 inch dynamic AMOLED Infinity O punch-out design display for the selfie camera, attaining a screen to body ratio of an impressive 91.0%. The screen is FHD+ and HDR10+ supported. It blends into the aluminium unibody and onto a glass back, both Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protected. The bezels and chin are very thin, with the bottom housing the downward-firing speaker, a USB-C connector and the S-Pen stylus housing. This particular Note series loses the 3.5mm headphone jack, rather, unfortunately. Outback, the unit sports a quad-camera set up, aligned to the left. The phone comes IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.

Performance and storage

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes with the top-notch Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset for China/US and the in-house Exynos 9825 for the rest of the global markets. The CPU variants on board is the octa-core upto 2.73 GHz Mongoose M4 + Cortex A75/A55 combo for global variants or the octacore upto 2.84 GHz Kyro 485s for the China/US versions. The GPU variants are Mali G76 Mp12 for global or the Adreno 640 for China/US. The onboard memory configuration id 12GB for RAM and 256/512 GB for UFS 3.0 internal memory. By and large, this is flagship territory, meaning that there is absolutely no task, be it RAM or graphics task that can faze this particular performance, even in gaming.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes with a quad-camera set up, starting off with a 12mp 27mm wide lens, supported by a 12 mp 52mp 2x optical zoom telephoto and a 16mp 12mm ultrawide with OIS Super Steady Video. Rather notable is a VGA 0.3mp Time of Flight lens that is understated but helps greatly in depth sensing, which is not available on the basic Samsung Galaxy Note 10. The photos are true to life in colour, very sharp and well detailed. The ToF sensor greatly improves the Live Focus Video/Photo, channelling into portrait/bokeh. This setting is infused into stereo voice/audio, working in tandem with zoom to improve audio as video zooms further away. It records 2160p video at 30/60fps, all the way to 720p at 960fps, with dual video recording and auto HDR. The front-facing camera is a 10mp 26mm wide, with dual video call and recording 2160p video at 30fps.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes with an improved 4300 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery, capable of lasting past a whole day of regular or power use. On top of that, it comes with Qi-certified 45W fast charging through the charging brick is bought separately. Straight out of the box though is a 25W fast-charging brick, capable of charging the battery to 100% in a little over an hour. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes wireless charging capable at 15W and reverse wireless charging at 9W. All this makes the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus extremely capable, even in power uses, with little chance that it might run out of juice.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus comes with the Android 9Pie based One UI 1.5 straight of the box, with One UI 2.0 and 2.1 slated for an update. The Samsung ecosystem comes with less bloatware after the UI redesign but has more custom apps embedded into the OS. This includes Music share which routes various Bluetooth out through the same output for shared music playing, Quick Share which seeks to replicate Apple’s Airdrop file sharing functionality and a system-wide dark mode, among others. Also, the S-Pen stylus adds air doddles, manual picture drawing and a remote camera shutter functionality to the works. It ultimately fast and fluid, with zero frame drops, irrespective of the task.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is a unique device, often consumed by long-life Note users, but also attractive to new demographics that might find it productive. That and above the fact that it is still a flagship device, modelled against the Samsung s10 series makes it a true flagship, albeit with a twist to its tale.
