While the iPad Air 13-inch (2024) design may seem familiar, this tablet offers something unique. It’s the lightweight, big-screen iPad Air you’ve always wanted, and it stands out as one of the most exciting new iPad releases ever. Though it maintains the 6.1mm profile of its predecessors, it diverges from there. This 11.04 x 8.46-inch / 28 x 21.5cm recycled aluminium and glass device weighs 1.36 lbs / 617g, which is quite an achievement given the increased screen size.

Everything else has stayed the same on this larger model. The 12MP rear camera remains in the same spot as the volume and adjacent, responsive Touch ID buttons. The screen bezel is similarly sized, though slightly thinner. However, the significant update is the relocation of the FaceTime camera to one of the wider landscape edges, positioned just below the Apple Pencil magnetic connector. This change necessitated reengineering the charging tech in the new Apple Pencil Pro and within the new iPad Airs and Pros, resulting in the new Pencil Pro’s compatibility only with the new iPads and the latest iPads’ incompatibility with older Pencils. 

Additionally, the microphone was moved from the top edge of the iPad to the adjacent bezel, almost an inch from the camera. In essence, the iPad Air 13-inch is both innovative and familiar.
