Hot on the heels of its namesake Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 comes its bigger and better brother, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, released on September 2019, with a slight improvement and the same consistent value for awesome specifications. Let us see what we should expect from this revamped midranger.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Screen and design
Boasting a 6.53 inch IPS LCD capacitive screen, the 1080 x 2340p with Corning gorilla Glass 5 protection screen offers massive viewing acreage with a screen to body ratio of 84.9%. The glass sandwiches a hardened plastic frame, measuring 8.8mm thick and weighing about 200g. The front design offers a teardrop camera module and about 500 nits of brightness, good enough even for the bright outdoors. Except for a small chin at the bottom, the screen is pretty much bezel less. The phone has a bottom firing speaker, USB-C charging and a 3,5mm jack at the bottom.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with the new Mediatek Helio G90T chipset, paired with the octacore Cortex CPU, revving up to 2GHz and a Mali G76 MC4 GPU. The memory configuration is either 6 or 8GB for the RAM and 64, 128 or 256 GB for the ROM. It also has a shared sim slot for microSD internal memory expansion. The memory is supported by UFS 2.1 mass storage. This configuration is fast enough for the everyday use and a great combination for the 64mp camera.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a 64mp wide primary camera, coupled with a 8mp ultra wide lens, a 2mp macro sensor and a 2mp depth shooter. The photos are great, sharp and rich in colour. The video capabilities include shooting 2k video at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps and 720p at 960fps. It comes supported with gyro electronic image stabilization. The front facing camera is a 20mp shooter, capable of HDR and panorama, shooting 1080 video at 30fps. The selfies are accurate and the edge detection in portrait and bokeh is very decent.
Out of the box, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro ships with android 9 Pie, upgradable to Android 10.0, with MIUI 11 custom skin slapped on top. The experience is smooth with little lag, largely on a redesign that make it lighter and look newer, adding even an app drawer while at it. The skin has much less bloatware and more useful app, making it a breeze for the repeat Xiaomi user and not so cringe for a first time MIUI user.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a non-removable 4500 mAh Li-Po battery, which easily last the day even for a power user. Bundled in is the 18W fast charging that charges the phone in about 2 hours. There is no fast charging here but that’s hardly a surprise in this midrange category. The endurance rate for this battery currently stands at 114 hours.
Overall, this a great mid-range offering.it supports NFC, has an IR blaster and standby dual sim. There is, of course, no IP rating for dust or water resistance. It comes in Black, Red, White, Deep Sea Blue, Midnight Blue, Electric Blue and Twilight Orange. For its price, this phone is truly worth every penny.
