VIVO Y02S
VIVO Y02S brings competitive pricing to budget phones balancing out the basic features with decent performance and its massive array of batteries. It sports a 6.51-inch IPS LED screen, decent 3GB RAM, a massive 5000mAh battery, and the decent Mediatek Helio P35 chipset. That’s certainly eye-catching a device at its price point
Design
VIVO Y02S comes with a 6.51-inch IPS LCD screen with a dew drop notch design for the selfie camera. It’s a comfortable size to hold, with a screen-to-body ratio of 82.1%. It has a plastic frame and back and a scratch-resistant front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 500 nits. It’s not rated for splash protection, but it’s certainly not waterproof. Fortunately, it has top-placed a headphone jack. It has a physical fast reside mounted fingerprint sensor, conveniently housed within the power button. It has a downward-firing speaker, which is great for playing media.
Performance
VIVO Y02S comes with the flagship MediaTek Helio P35 4G, making it decently fast. It has a Cortex Octa-core CPU paired with a PowerVR GPU, with storage options of 2/3 GB for RAM & 32/64 GB for ROM. It also comes with a dedicated expandable memory option, which supports up to 128GB. It is running the latest Android 12, with an Origin OS Ocean skin on top. The performance feels fast, smooth, and rich in color. It however comes with lots of pre-installed apps, which can be an underwhelming experience, especially if you are not used to bloatware. The OS is however very customizable, with tones of themes and other customizations.
Cameras
VIVO Y02S has a single camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a basic 8MP primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. It still delivers decently and colorfully though the expectations should be tapered to a reasonable level. It will predictably deliver less and less as light reduces, but that’s the concession for this price. The video can support up to 1080p video at 30 fps, with HDR support. The selfie camera is a basic 5MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are great and well-lit.
Other features
The VIVO Y02S supports USB Type C, but unspecified if it has fast charging. Needless to say, there is also no wireless charging. On the flip side, it comes with a massive Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery that supports reverse charging. It can get 100% charged in just over an hour. Despite being a midrange phone, the addition of the fairly quick chipset & big battery really does turn the tables for this device. It truly is a beautiful device to look at. There is no NFC for contactless payments and a radio. It comes in Blue and Black.
Similarly, priced phones would include Infinix Smart 6, Tecno Pop 5 Pro, the Nokia C20 and Samsung A03. the main distinctions at this price point is often a choice of a better camera or more memory. The sizes are usually standard and the batteries are often huge. It’s unlikely there are fast charging options as the price is too competitive.
The design is great and looks at par with many entry-level budget phones on the market now. The OS will feel right at home, especially if you have used a Vivo phone before.
