The Oppo A97 brings competitive prices with a refresh to the flagships, excellent bleeding edge performance device, with an LCD screen, a primary 48MP camera, 33W fast charging, a huge battery at 5000mAh and the new midrange Dimensity 810. Add 5G and that should tell you this a beast. It ticks pretty much every box, and then some. This phone is nothing but a midrange powerhouse.
Design
The Oppo A97 comes with a 6.6-inch IPS LCD screen with a drop down notch design for the selfie camera. It’s has a considerable chin at the bottom, but at least the bezels are uniform, with a screen to body ratio of 85.3%. It an aspect ratio of 20:9 and supports HD10 which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame & back and a Panda front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 450 nits. It’s not rated for dust and splash protection, but it has water repellent coating for splash protection. Fortunately, it keeps the headphone jack. It has a fast side mounted fingerprint sensor, conveniently housed within the home button, for safe unlock. It supports stereo speakers, so its a delight when playing media.
Performance
The Oppo A97 brings in the heat with latest generation Mediatek Dimensity 810 5G chipset, the new range of midrange 5G chipsets, making it very fast and excellent for gaming. It has a Cortex Octa-core CPU paired with a Mali G57 GPU, with storage options of 12 GB for RAM & 256 GB for ROM. It also comes with a hybrid expandable memory option, which it shares with the sim card. Running the latest Android 12 with a ColorOS 12 skin on top, the performance feels very fast and premium. ColorOS rich in customizations, supporting numerous always-on screen animations. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels fast, fluid and rich in colour.
Cameras
The Oppo A97 has a dual camera arrangement on the back. It comes with an excellent 48 MP primary sensor, with 8 MP picture binning for those excellent daylight photos. There is an extra 2MP depth sensor for great portrait and bokeh pictures. The video can support up to 1080p video at 30 fps, with HDR supports & gyro-EIS stability assistance. The selfie camera is a decent 12MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are great and well lit.
Other features
The Oppo A97 with competitive 33W fast charging, which can the phone can get to 100% in a little over an hour. It also supports wired reverse charging of unspecified wattage. That’s impressive by all standards! That in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery. Even with the huge screen, this should be more than enough. The main concession would be that there is no wireless charging here. It fortunately does support NFC for contactless paying. It comes in Black, and Blue.
