Into
Right on the heels of the Samsung Galaxy M30 and A30s, Samsung saw it fit to redo those particular versions and tweak the specifications a little, only to end up with the Samsung Galaxy M31, a midrange siren that shines for the camera and the massive battery on board. Let’s see what new about it.
Design and display
Just like the many mid-range devices we have been accustomed to come from Samsung recently, the Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime also comes with a super AMOLED 6.4-inch screen with the Infinity U teardrop notch design to house the selfie camera. The frame and back are made from plastic although it hardly looks cheap or unappealing. We have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a rectangle quad-camera bump, a design that is inspired by the flagship S10, S20 series of 2020.
The screen has a small chin at the bottom, a small speaker grill, the USB-C connector, and the elusive 3.5mm jack. The screen to body ratio is 84.1%, which gives the screen a bezel-less feeling while consuming content. The phone is a little heavy (191g) and thicker (8.9mm) largely because of the massive battery included. See also Galaxy M31
Performance
Just like the many midranges, Samsung has been pushing, the Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime with the in-house Exynos 9611 10nm chipset, same as was used in the preceding M30 and A51 models. The CPU is a Cortex A73 and A53 combo which clocks out at 2.3GHz, along with a Mali G72 MP3 GPU. The RAM for the base model is bumped all the way to 6GB with a ROM choice for 64/128GB. It has a dedicated microSDXC memory card if that doesn’t feel sufficient enough. The SoC is a decent midrange, handling intensive tasks like gaming with ease, with hardly any lag or slowdowns
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime camera set up has clearly been improved. The primary clocks in at 64mp, a considerable improvement from the 48mp of its predecessor. It also has an 8mp ultrawide lens, a 5mp depth sensor, and a dedicated 5mp macro shooter. The photos are great as expected, with extra vivid colors due to overexposure especially during daylight.
It might also struggle in low light, delivering grainier images and loads of noise. It can shoot 4k video in 30fps and full HD in 30fps. The selfie camera is also better, at 32mp, capturing great detail and decent subject separation in bokeh. It can record 1080p video at 30fps. Check out the product’s official website.
Software
Now Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime has Android 10 based One UI 2 OS, which feels lighter, with less bloatware and the ability to delete preloaded apps. The UI ecosystem apps are also more productive and less invasive. The experience is more intuitive and interactive, faster, fluid, and smooth. Scrolling through One UI 2 feels like a breeze, with faster app opening times and great RAM management for graphics-intensive tasks.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime is clearly a worthwhile upgrade from the Samsung Galaxy M30, with a focus squarely on key aspects of the predecessor, namely the primary camera, an additional macro lens, and more base RAM. We have NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual standby nano sim. It comes in Ocean Blue, Space Black, and Red.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime comes with a massive non-removable Li-Po battery, much like many of the devices in the M series. This particular spec sets this device apart from its competitors as the phone can easily last more than a day without needing any additional charging, no matter if it’s average or power-intensive tasks. That is very terrific battery life. To help charge it all up in a little over 3hours, we have 15W fast charging, though it could have been greater to have faster charging, more like 25W.
