Still from the midrange Samsung A series, we find a unique device, with a little bit of everything, but nothing spectacular or overboard to bring about a powerful device into budget pricing. Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy A60, launched in June 2019, a beautifully designed device that offers a little of something different to the knowledgeable user. Let’s delve in.

Screen and design of the Samsung Galaxy A60

The Samsung Galaxy A60 comes with a rather smaller 6.4 inch, IPS LCD touchscreen, with a top-left aligned punch hole to accommodate the front-facing camera, helping it achieve a screen to body ratio of 84.9%. The 409 PPI density screen appears to be massive, owing to the location of the camera punch out. it comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, sloping into the middle hardened plastic frame and back. At the back, It has a fingerprint scanner and a triple camera set up that’s vertically aligned to the top left. At the bottom, it has a downward-firing speaker grill, a USB-C connector and gladly, a headphone jack. It weighs in at 168g and is 7.9mm thick.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy A60 comes with Snapdragons midrange 675 11nm chipset flanked by an octacore up-to 2GHz Kyro 470 CPU and an Adreno 612 GPU. The memory configurations are 6GB for RAM and a choice of 64/128GB for ROM, with microSDXC expandable memory, although it’s a hybrid system, meaning it shares the slot with another single sim card. The SoC is widely respected as a well-optimized midrange chipset, fast, light and easy on the battery. The phone performs relatively well even in heavier tasks like gaming, showing little signs of lag or frame drop.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A60 comes with a triple camera set up, starting off with a 32mp 26mm wide lens, in addition to an 8mp ultra-wide shooter and a 5mp depth sensor. The images are sharp, rich in color and well detailed. They thrive even in poor lighting conditions but nothing award-winning. The camera can shoot 2160 video in 30fps and full HD in 30/60 fps. The front-facing camera is an average 16mp 26mm wide lens, fairly decent, shooting in HD and offering 1080p video in 30fps.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy A60 comes with a non-removable Li-Po 3500mAh battery. If might look fairly smaller but without the AMOLED screen and an optimized chipset, it works just as fine. It breezes through the whole day even for a power user, leaving a couple hours of juice for the average user. If that doesn’t suffice, it comes with up to 15W fast charging, with the brick and cable coming with the box. The smaller battery also helps push its price down to solid budget phone status. The battery endurance stands at 86 hours.

Software

Out the box, the Samsung Galaxy A60 comes with the Android 9 Pie with One UI custom skin. It still however is upgradable to the new Android 10 with One UI 2 update so that shouldn’t be a problem at all. The experience is smooth and snappy. The extra RAM makes up for better task management, enabling the software to hold more apps open, therefore shortening the times needed for these apps to open once someone needs to use them often. The Samsung One UI also offers a few bag of tricks, with their own apps embedded into their system to offer an experience not available from other manufacturers or custom android. Good thing though is that the bloatware is not overwhelming.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A60 is a great balance between specs, performance and price, offering more power for the buck, NFC, Bluetooth 5, fast charging but sacrificing premium features like the AMOLED screen, under display finger print sensor and bigger battery. It doesn’t disappoint nonthelsess. it comes highly recommended. Colors include Daybreak Black, Seawater Blue, Cocktail Orange and Peach Mist.
