The price of Realme 8 in Kenya is Ksh 23,000 for the RMX3085 model. It was announced in 2021, March 24 and it runs on the Mediatek Helio G95 (12 nm) processor with Mali-G76 MC4 GPU. The phone has 4/6/8GB RAM and 128GB storage which is expandable using microSDXC (dedicated slot). It also runs on Android 11 with Realme UI 2.0 and is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

Features

The Realme 8 measures 1160.6 x 73.9 x 8 mm (height x width x thickness) with a total weight of 177 grams. Coming to cameras, it has a quad 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP rear camera and a 16 MP front camera for selfies. This phone has a 6.4-inch (2400 x 1080 pixels) FHD+ Super AMOLED Display, 411 PPI, Adaptive HDR10, and Always-on display feature. It has a USB Type-C port for data syncing and charging. There is a fingerprint sensor present on the phone (under display, optical).

Launch

This phone, the Realme 8 was released on 2021, March 25. It is a Dual SIM smartphone that uses Nano-SIM and has a dual standby. On the front is a hole punch display wherein the selfie camera lies. Its back panel has a quad-camera module on the right-hand side. As for the fingerprint scanner, it is an under the display, optical scanner.

The Realme 8 comes in the color Cyber Silver, and Cyber Black. It makes use of the USB Type-C 2.0, USB On-The-Go, and has a 3.5 mm jack (24-bit/192kHz audio). The phone also has Bluetooth version 5.1, A2DP, LE, and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot. As for radio (FM), the same is not available but NFC (market/region dependent) is very much present here.

Display

Now, let us take a look at the display this phone has to offer. Everyone loves a good display on a phone for obvious reasons. Namely, the display is the one part of a phone you will ever interact with. Realme 8 has an impressive Super AMOLED display panel that measures 6.4 inches, 98.9 cm2.

This display has a decent 1080 x 2400  pixels resolution and an equally high 411 PPI density. As for the selfie camera, it is inside that hole punch on the top left corner. This phone’s build is plastic with a Glass front (Gorilla Glass), plastic back, and a frame. This phone’s display is also graced with HDR10, 83.3% screen-to-body ratio, and Always-on display.

Network

The Realme 8 smartphone supports four network technologies. These are GSM, HSPA, and LTE. HSPA extends and improves the performance of existing 3G mobile telecommunication networks using the WCDMA protocols. LTE  is a standard for wireless broadband communication for mobile devices and data terminals, based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies.

Platform

A phone platform is the hardware/software environment for tablets, smartphones, and other portable devices. Realme 8 runs on the Android 11 operating system. Android 11 is the eleventh major release and 18th version of Android, the mobile operating system developed by the Open Handset Alliance led by Google. Also powering the phone is an Octa-core (2×2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55), MediaTek Helio G95 (12 nm) chipset. This version of Android it runs is based on Realme UI 2.0.

Under the hood, it also brings a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU. The ARM Mali-G76 MP4 is an integrated high-end graphics card for ARM-based SoCs (mostly Android-based). It was introduced in 2019 in the Mediatek G90 and G90T (e.g. Redmi Note 8 Pro). The Realme 8 comes with 64/128 GB of internal storage with 4/6/8 GB of RAM.

Cameras

There are five cameras on the Realme 8. They are made up of a main 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.73″, 0.8µm, PDAF, 8 MP, f/2.3, 119˚, 16mm (ultrawide), 1/4.0″, 1.12µm, 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth). Its main feature is LED flash, panorama, HDR and it can shoot video up to 4K@30fps with the main camera, but 1080p@30/120fps, gyro-EIS with the selfie. Speaking of the selfie, on this phone, there is a single 16 MP, f/2.5, (wide), 1/3.0″, 1.0µm shooter.

Battery

Realme 8 has a respectable Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery with fast charging 30W. It is a lasting battery given its 5000 mAh capacity. It also has a fast-charging 30W, 50% in 26 min, 100% in 65 min (advertised).
