    Oppo A16 In Kenya

The Oppo A16 brings competitive pricing to significantly cheaper options, with a budget performance device, an immersive 6.52 IPS LCD screen, a primary 13MP camera, a massive battery at 5000mAh, and an entry-level MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. It comes off as a beautiful yet budget device, with a promise of great value proposition.

    Design

The Oppo A16 comes with a 6.52-inch IPS LCD screen with a dew drop-down notch for the selfie camera. It’s a considerably sized screen, with a screen-to-body ratio of 83.0%. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and supports HDR which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame and back and a Corning Gorilla 3 front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 480 nits. It has a headphone jack, fortunately. It comes with a side-mounted physical fingerprint sensor, conveniently housed within the power button. It has a mono speaker whose sound is surprisingly clear when playing media.

    Performance

The Oppo A16 comes with the basic budget Mediatek MT6765G Helio G35 chipset, making it fairly quick, though not so much when the pedal is pressed to the floor. It has a Cortex A53 Octa-core CPU paired with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU, with storage options of 3/4GB for RAM & 32/64/256 GB for ROM. It has an expandable memory option with a dedicated slot. It’s running the latest Android 11 with a ColorOS 11.1 skin on top, the performance feels quite relaxed and intuitive. ColorOS is rich in customizations, numerous themes, and alterations. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels snappy, fluid, and rich in color.

    Cameras

The Oppo A16 has a triple camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a decent primary 13 MP primary sensor for those excellent daylight photos. It has an extra 2MP depth sensor for the portrait/bokeh effect on photos and a 2MP macro sensor for those close-up pictures. The video can support up to 1080p video at 30 fps, with HDR support. The selfie camera is a basic 8MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are passable and usable.

    Other features

In other areas, the Oppo A16 comes with basic Type-C charging without fast charging, getting the phone fully charged in about a little over one and a half hours. That’s passable at this price point. That is in addition to the fact that it also comes with a massive Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery. This should be more than enough even for the power. In this case, it’s a little obvious that this is a budget device and most expectations shouldn’t apply here. It comes in Blue, Black, and Silver.

Similarly, priced phones would include Huawei Y7 Pro, Infinix Hot 12 Play, Nokia G21, and the Samsung Galaxy F12. The main talking points would be the premium design and the huge battery. Besides the more obvious budget specifications, there really isn’t much to talk about.

For the price, it’s a great device. Superior design, nice screen, and a very huge battery. The chipset might be an entry-level budget Mediatek chipset, but the performance is fairly decent. All in all, the compromises of course are reflected in the final price.
