    Design

The Infinix S5 Pro sports a large 6.53 inch IPS LCD screen that has absolutely no notch nor the punch-out camera as it utilizes a pop-up selfie camera that helps it achieve an 83.8% screen to body ratio. The panel looks very expansive with the uninterrupted view which makes it a darling when it comes to content consumption.

The build is plastic, both frame, and back, with a vertical triple camera implementation at the back. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and quite the premium looking poly-carbonate shimmering design, which happens to be a fingerprint magnet. Like in most budget devices, we keep the micro USB connector and the 3.5 mm jack.

    Performance

The Infinix S5 Pro comes with the entry-level Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 chipset, alongside an Octa-core 2.3 GHz Cortex A53 CPU and a PowerVR GE8320. This is decent budget level power and there shouldn’t be any noticeable lag. This means good everyday use support but once the task starts to get intensive, the phone is bound to struggle.

The memory onboard is 4/6 GB for RAM and 64/128 GB for mass internal storage, with a dedicated slot for expandable storage. This configuration is great for task management and faster opening of apps. It should help up the performance working with multiple apps – see Infinix Smart 4.

    Camera

The camera on the Infinix S5 Pro is very unique, both in design and implementation. U shaped camera bump houses a primary 48 mp wide camera, a 2 mp depth sensor, and a QVGA light sensor. The default photos benefit from the large sensor, giving off clear and detailed photos, especially in well-exposed environments – see Infinix s5.

The bokeh and portrait modes are not the best but they are usable. What’s disappointing in the light sensor, which should help in those low light photos but instead tends to smoothen them over, hence losing all the detail. The video can shoot 1080p in 30fps. The front-facing camera is a motorized 16 mp pop up camera. Quite a novelty at this price point. The selfies are usable and the video achieves 1080p at 30fps.

    Software

The Infinix S5 Pro comes with XOS 6.0, based on Android 10. The first impression is that of a somewhat smooth and fluid experience, but as you progress, it doesn’t feel well optimized. That’s large because of the massive bloatware, from numerous preinstalled apps to system-wide ad services. It feels unnatural to have pop-ups everywhere with usage, even when the phone is offline. There are toggles to turn off some of these devices but that’s far from ideal – see Tecno Camon 15 Pro.

    Battery

The Infinix S5 Pro comes with a very capable 4000 mAh nonremovable Li-Po battery, which has become very popular amongst budget devices and enough to power you through the day. It should take you through some power use and still have some juice left at the end of the day. We still have micro USB so no fast charging leaving us to rely on standard 10W charging which fills the phone in a little over 2 hours.

    Conclusion

From a design point of view, the Infinix S5 Pro is a great looking device. Add a formidable battery and a great looking screen and the first impression is great. The cameras might turn out to be a little underwhelming and the software irritating but at this price point, compromises are the norm. The Infinix S5 Pro is certainly a great value device.
