Design

The Infinix Note 7 comes with a massive 6.96 inch IPS LCD with the less intrusive punch-out design to house the forward-facing camera, with narrow bezels and a not so conspicuous bottom chin, attaining an 83.7% screen to body ratio. It is expectedly a plastic build, both the frame and the back. The polycarbonate material has a shimmering gradient to it, something we have seen with many other manufacturers, giving it a premium look and feel.

On the back, we have a beautiful circular quad-camera module and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The display is well saturated, offering a pleasurable experience when consuming content. It comes with a 3.5 mm jack but a micro USB connector – see also Samsung Galaxy A71.

 Performance

The Infinix Note 7 carries the Mediatek Helios G70 chip, alongside an octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex A55/A75 combo CPU and a Mali G52 GPU. The SoC is entry-level so we don’t expect it to be great in graphics, but it handles every other task with ease. When it comes to gaming, it has to reduce the graphics to more manageable levels from where it delivers its punch. The storage on board is 4/6 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of internal storage, in addition to a dedicated micro SDXC slot that houses the expandable memory slot. The memory should easily suffice, even with multiple opened apps.

Camera

The main focus here seems to be delivering a good camera but at a budget price and the Infinix Note 7 puts up a fair fight. It has a quad-camera setup, starting with a large 48 mp wide camera, then a 2 mp macro lens, a 2 mp depth sensor, and a QVGA light sensor. The photos are decent, especially in optimal light, but it can really struggle in low light. The bokeh is believable though the portrait mode doesn’t have great edge detection. It can record 1080p video in 30fps. Upfront, we have a 16 mp wide lens too, which delivers decent selfies. It can shoot 1080p video in 30fps.

Infinix Note 7 battery

The Infinix Note 7 comes with a huge non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery which easily lasts through 2 days, especially on average use, making it great for media consumption, browsing, and some photography. it comes with a micro USB connector, but we somehow get 18W fast charging which is a pleasant addition to this range of phones. That means it will take far less time to fill up and I wish this feature was available on more devices in this brand – see Infinix S5 Pro.

Software

The Infinix Note 7 comes with Android 10 based custom XOS 6.0. The UI feels smooth and fast, but it, unfortunately, comes with massive bloatware, anything from a pre-loaded app to system ads that seem to pop up everywhere a little too often. It might feel frustrating but there are options within the system to turn them off. It is decently optimized, but it still takes some getting used to. The sensors are not fast, especially the face unlock, compromises are the norm at this price point.

Conclusion

For the price it offers, the Infinix Note 7 is still a great device, despite its software bloatware. It offers a decent camera, a capable entry-level chipset, and great battery life. That’s on top of the beautiful modern looking design, which is probably its best selling point – see also Infinix Hot 9 Play.
